here is some info as to how the Oz mix Lesson #1 came about,
In 2003, Raph Boogie (Crookneck Records) & Dj Ransom started to produced & compile an album of Australia's earliest releases on VINYL, by Oz hip hop artists, the 2004 CROOKNECK release is called 15 OZ - Vinyl, 15 years of Australian Hip Hop on vinyl. Mixed by Dj Ransom, with bonus cuts by J-Red.
The CD & booklet were not intended to be a concise history of Hip Hop development in Australia, but it comes very close.
There was an idea of a 10inch vinyl promo release, (limited edition, cut out in the shape of Australia, see cover photo), to promote the release of the CD, A Ransom produced track was to be on one side, & an Oz "mega mix" on the other side, for which Raph had Blunted Stylus in mind. Being hell bent on 80's cut 'n' paste style edit mixes myself, (e.g, Double D & Steinski's Lessons 1,2 & 3, Coldcut, Mantronix, DJ 3D, grandmixer DST etc...), I jumped at the idea, The end result being Oz Lesson number 1 - Various Oz Hip Hop artists - mixed by Blunted Stylus. ("lesson number 1" pays homage to Double D & Steinski's "lessons", & to Raph Boogie's line in the mix "Lesson number one").
The CD was released & well received, but the 10inch promo never came to fruition!... so here is the mix. Enjoy!!
Thanks out to all the Aussie Hip Hop artists & supporting community over the years that helped make it possible.
